Let’s talk

Designer/Developer

Reports to: COO
Date: 6/3/2026

The ONE Thing

Build and ship pixel-perfect, on-brand web experiences — from Figma to live site — that make our PI law firm clients look like the top firm in their market.

Core Function

The Designer/Developer is a rare hybrid who owns the full visual execution cycle: designing clean, conversion-focused layouts in Figma and building them in WordPress. You translate strategy into dev-ready designs, then bring those designs to life — shipping fast, shipping right, and never requiring a handoff middleman.

Target Salary

TBD, based on experience and location

Location: Open

Employment Type: Full time

Location Type: Remote

Department: Delivery / Dev & Design

Poised to 2x by 2027 by helping over 200 law firms dominate their markets, Case Engine is on track to become the market leader in answer engine optimization for law firms. Our team is hungry, smart, fast and ready to scale aggressively. If you’re driven to be the best and want to work with top performers while delivering exceptional results for clients, then Case Engine is the place for you.

Role

You design it. You build it. You own it. This role exists because we need someone who can close the gap between design and dev without losing fidelity, speed, or quality. You work from briefs, wireframes, and direction to produce sharp Figma files — then you implement them in WordPress. You understand hierarchy, responsiveness, and conversion as well as you understand JS and CSS. You care about the output more than the process.

Responsibilities

Design

  • Design web pages, sections, and components (hero, practice area layouts, forms, proof blocks, CTAs) based on briefs and wireframes.
  • Apply and extend existing brand guidelines and design systems for PI law firm clients.
  • Prepare and organize Figma files so they’re clean, labeled, and developer-friendly.
  • Create supporting visual assets (icons, graphics, thumbnails) as needed.
  • Ensure designs support conversion best practices: clear CTAs, scannable layouts, mobile-first.

Development

  • Transform approved Figma designs into pixel-perfect WordPress pages — no interpretation gaps,
  • Build and maintain custom WordPress themes for multiple client websites.
  • Resolve bug tickets with 100% accuracy — no comebacks.
  • Implement technical SEO requirements (schema, meta, sitemaps) within WordPress architecture.
  • Optimize site speed: caching, minification, Core Web Vitals compliance.
  • Manage plugin updates, conflicts, and compatibility issues.
  • Execute QA checklists for new launches and existing sites.

Process & Communication

  • Track every minute spent on tickets in ClickUp with precise descriptions.
  • Communicate blockers immediately — no suffering in silence.
  • Collaborate with SEO, content, and account teams on design-dev tradeoffs.
  • Remain available on Slack 9AM–5PM EST.

Brand & Content Design

  • Design social media graphics, thumbnails, and post templates across platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, etc.)
  • Create logos and brand identity assets for new and existing clients
  • Design podcast cover art and publication graphics for episode releases
  • Produce ebook layouts, lead magnet templates, and downloadable content assets
  • Build out ad creative (static) for paid social campaigns as needed
  • Maintain visual consistency across all content formats — website, social, and print-ready deliverables — so every client touchpoint looks like the same brand

Requirements

Design Skills

  • 2–4+ years of digital design experience; web/product-style work preferred.
  • Proficiency with Figma and component-based design.
  • Portfolio showing clean, structured web layouts with strong hierarchy and typography.
  • Understanding of responsive design and UX/conversion principles for service business websites.

Development Skills

  • 2+ years of hands-on WordPress development (custom themes, custom post types, WP Query).
  • Expert-level HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (vanilla and jQuery).
  • PHP proficiency for theme and plugin customization.
  • Git version control.
  • Performance optimization and Core Web Vitals compliance.
  • Experience with local dev environments (LocalWP, MAMP, etc.).

AI Aptitude (Required)

  • Demonstrated experience using AI tools (Cursor, Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, Midjourney, etc.) to accelerate design or development work.
  • Comfort integrating AI into daily workflow — not just awareness, but active use.
  • Ability to describe specific ways AI has improved output quality or speed in past roles.

Example of how we use AI at Case Engine: Our team uses AI daily to generate design variations, write and debug code, QA content for SEO compliance, and automate repetitive production tasks. We expect you to push this further.

Web3 / Crypto Background (Strong Preference)

  • Experience working in web3, crypto, or blockchain environments — DeFi, NFT platforms, meme token projects, DAOs, or similar.
  • Candidates with a significant gap in traditional employment between 2022–2025 who were building or contributing to crypto/web3 projects will be viewed favorably — we want to know what you shipped.
  • Comfort with fast-moving, high-ambiguity environments where speed and execution matter more than process.

What Success Looks Like

  • Design and development tickets are delivered on time, on-brief, with minimal rework.
  • Figma files are so clean that handoff to other developers (when needed) is seamless.
  • Implemented pages are pixel-perfect matches — no designer has to QA your builds.
  • Client sites look like the top firm in their market.
  • You reduce turnaround time by owning the full design-to-dev cycle.

INTERVIEW PROCESS

Stage | Who | Focusx

Interview 1: Pre-screening | Selena | Basics, availability, AI aptitude, web3 background

Interview 2 : Culture interview | Kam | Fit, communication, core values

Interview 2: Technical interview | Gabe | Design portfolio review + live dev/design test

Final Interview 3 – review | Kyle  | Final decision

Required screening question:

“Walk me through a project where you handled both the design and the build. What was the hardest part of owning both sides, and how did you solve it?”

AI screening question:

“Tell me about a specific time you used an AI tool to improve your design or development work. What did you use and what was the outcome?”

Web3 screening question:

“Tell us about any work you did in web3, crypto, or related spaces between 2022–2025 — what did you build or contribute to, and what was the environment like?”

Interview Questions:

Have you ever managed design and development work for multiple clients simultaneously? How many at once, and how did you handle competing deadlines?

Can you describe a custom WordPress build you did without using a page builder like Elementor or Divi? What was your approach to theme structure and custom fields?

Walk me through your process before you submit a finished page. How do you check your own work across devices and browsers before anyone else sees it?

When you design something in Figma that you know you’ll be building yourself, how does that change the way you design it? Do you make different decisions knowing you’re the one writing the code?
